On March 5, the exhibition Play & Prosume will open at the Kunsthalle Wien, accompanied by a symposium featuring a number of VU University faculty members. The exhibition and symposium result from the HERA funded research project “Technology Exchange and Flow: Artistic Media Practices and Commercial Application”. It brings together the key research findings of the project research teams at Plymouth University, VU University Amsterdam and the University of Applied Arts Vienna together with contributions from the EYE Film Institute, Amsterdam and the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, Hilversum. A catalogue (Verlag für moderne Kunst) will accompany the exhibition, which includes contributions by the project partners about major findings, as well as reflections about key terms such as “serious games”, “interfaciality” or the “prosumer”. The character of texts ranges from essays, interviews, commented images to literary reflections. On Thursday 7 March, Bert Hogenkamp, Wilbert Schreurs and Rudmer Canjels will present their research within the HERA project, together with colleagues from Vienna. On Friday 8 March, Ivo Blom will hold a lecture on Crossmedial Exhibitions, together with Wilbert Schreurs who will lecture on exhibitions on publicity.

Stages Nederlands Film Festival

 

Voor het aankomende Nederlands Film Festival (van 25 september t/m 4 oktober 2013) is men weer op zoek naar enthousiaste stagiaires om de organisatie te versterken.  Er zijn verschillende stageplaatsen op de afdelingen Programma & Evenementen, New Business, Marketing & Communicatie, Productie en Holland Film Meeting. ESF-aanvraag toegekend

De European Science Foundation heeft een stevige subsidie toegekend aan een aanvraag voor een zg. exploratory workshop over intermedialiteit, te houden medio 2009 in Amsterdam. Hoofdaanvragers zijn Ivo Blom en Ginette Verstraete, medeaanvragers zijn prof. Francesco Casetti (Università Cattolica, Milano, Italië), dr. Antonio Somaini (Politecnico, Milano, Italië), prof.dr. Jens Schröter (Universität Siegen, Siegen, Duitsland), prof.dr. Yvonne Spielmann (University of the West of Scotland, Ayr, Schotland), en prof.dr. Ágnes Pethő (Sapientia-Hungarian University of Transsylvania, Cluj, Roemenië). De bedoeling is dat deze groep, aangevuld met nog een stuk of 10/15 experts uit de academische wereld en de werelden van archief, curatorschap, beleid en subsidieverstrekking, delibereren over een gezamenlijk Europees onderzoeksprogramma, wat zich verspreid over een aantal jaren zal bezighouden met onder meer symposia en publicaties. Daarvoor zal financiering worden gezocht bij de nationale organisaties voor wetenschappelijk onderzoek.

De abstract voor de aanvraag luidt: "This workshop explores the concepts and practices of intermedia and intermediality and related terms (multimedia, convergence, hybridisation, appropriation, migration, remediation, etc.), in different national, disciplinary and historical contexts: how do we understand the convergence between arts and media, how do we curate it, and how do we fund it? In addition to conceptualisation, we look at three other important categories: intermediality in historical research, intermediality in curatorship and intermediality in assessment and funding institutions. We are explicitly seeking to establish a future European research programme and network, involving academics with a wide range of nationalities, disciplines, experiences and ambitions, whilst also trying to provide a European platform for exploring ways of dealing with the current situation in the arts and media world as regards increasing intermedial relationships."

Het is voor het eerst dat de Letterenfaculteit van de VU zo'n exploratory workshop van ESF gehonoreerd krijgt. Een opsteker dus voor de aanvragers, voor ACW en voor VU-Letteren.
